CONTEXT

Context explores the unstable relationship between objects, images and meaning. Familiar things are displaced, combined or placed where they do not belong, transforming the ordinary into something strange, poetic or unexpectedly intimate.

The photographs play with the assumptions through which we construct reality—memory, cultural reference, expectation and habit. What first appears playful can become melancholic; an insignificant object can acquire the weight of a metaphor.

Language is integral to the work. The titles do not describe the photographs but enter into dialogue with them—extending, contradicting or destabilising what we see. Image and language become two parts of a single work, with meaning emerging in the space between them.

Beneath its wit and visual playfulness, Context returns to enduring human concerns: childhood, memory, love, freedom, mortality and time. Ultimately, the series is less about what we see than how we see—and how readily meaning changes when the frame around it shifts.

Context was presented on a major public scale at Lover’s Bridge in Sofia, unfolding across 64 billboards in an open-air installation of photography and text. The series was also exhibited at Arosita Contemporary Gallery, Sofia, and works from the project are held in private collections.
